5 Days – in Berlin
How does the theatre respond when the world is in chaos?
This is an intensive acting workshop where we will examine how actors and the theatre have harnessed their techniques in bold and novel ways to depict conflict and the moral decisions people must take in the face of their own and others struggle :where theatre” not only depicts society but try to change it ”
I will examine epic as well as naturalistic texts examining means of conveying raw emotion and how hard “questions of humanity ” are arrived at “.
Drawing on my own experience in developing ” cultural resistance “- training acting groups who toured populations under occupation and turned stories of hardship into drama, we will look at work about Russian, Irish, American and Palestinian conflict involving songs, poems, heightened physical depiction as well as text analysis and pure acting exercises.
